Date and Location

ARE Library Conference Room, 4101 Social Sciences and Humanities

Abstract

This talk will discuss the Food Demand Survey (FooDS) that has been conducted monthly for the past two and a half years. The purpose of this project is to track consumer preferences and sentiments on the safety, quality, and price of food consumed at home and away from home. The project tracks consumer awareness of food-related issues and events, with particular focus on meat demand. FooDS includes what is probably the largest and longest-running choice experiment to date. This talk will discuss trends in the FooDS data, and will discuss ongoing research related to the ability of FooDS data to predict changes in retail meat prices, the stability of WTP estimates over time, meat demand inter-relationships, and determinants of food expenditures. One goal of the talk is to encourage others to utilize FooDS data in their research.
