ARE PhD Student Charlotte Ambrozek Named Professors for the Future Program Fellow

May 12, 2020

ARE PhD student Charlotte Ambrozek has been named a 2020-2021 fellow in the Professors for the Future (PFTF) Program. Ambrozek will join 14 other doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars from UC Davis who were selected for this competitive year-long fellowship. The PFTF recognizes and develops the leadership skills of outstanding doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars who have demonstrated their commitment to professionalism, integrity, and academic service. It is designed to prepare participants for an increasingly competitive marketplace and a rapidly changing university environment.

Throughout the course of the program, fellows receive formal training in teaching methods and course design, participate in a seminar course on ethics and professionalism, and meet regularly for roundtable panel discussions to promote professional development, intellectual growth, and leadership skills. Fellows also work on a project of their own design to enhance the graduate or postdoctoral experience and professional development of their colleagues. These projects are then presented at an end-of-year reception.

Charlotte is excited about participating in the program next year. She is looking forward to collaborating with peers in other disciplines and building skills through the PFTF coursework. Her project “is designed to introduce leadership and communication skills to early career researchers, using principles from outdoor education.” The project will focus on methods for making decisions, resolving conflict, and giving and receiving feedback. “I probably won't be able to resist including how opportunity cost, the equimarginal principle, and comparative advantage can be used for decision making,” she added.

Since its inception in 1992, more than 250 doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars have completed the program. More information about the program and past research projects can be found here.
