Research by Boucher, Carter, Lybbert and Malacarne Highlighted for Protecting Small Farms in Mozambique from Drought
April 23, 2019
An article by Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Assets and Market Access highlights research by ARE professors Stephen Boucher, Michael Carter, Travis Lybbert; ARE Ph.D. Candidate Jonathan Malacarne; and others. "Protecting Small Farms in Mozambique from Drought" details how this team of agricultural economists tested whether insured seeds can increase food security for farmers who regularly risk losing crops to extreme weather. "Seeds that enhance the resilience of farmers facing drought has been probably the most popular public and private crop investment in the past 20 years," Dr. Lybbert comments. "Adding insurance expands this resilience to include even the worst possibly outcomes."
