March 22, 2019

The University of California Giannini Foundation of Agricultural Economics announces that the latest edition of its bimonthly ARE Update newsletter is a special issue focused on the 2018 Farm Bill and the impending “Brexit” of the United Kingdom from the European Union.

The special issue’s introduction, written by UC Davis Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) distinguished professors Richard J. Sexton and Daniel A. Sumner, describes why certain sections of the Farm Bill are examined, and how the Brexit story comes to us with key insights from ARE Distinguished Professor Colin A. Carter while he’s on sabbatical leave this year in Ireland. Carter co-authored the article with Doris Läpple, lecturer in the School of Business and Economics at the National University of Ireland Galway.

Special issue articles include, “California Farm Commodities and the 2018 Farm Bill,” by Hyunok Lee and Daniel A. Sumner, “What Does the 2018 Farm Bill Mean for California and the Environment? Spotlight on the Conservation Programs,” by Ellen M. Bruno and David Zilberman, “Changes to Nutrition Programs in the 2018 Farm Bill,” by Charlotte Ambrozek and Tim Beatty, and “Brexit and the Disruption of Agricultural Trade: A View from Ireland,” by Colin A. Carter and Doris Läpple.
