Annals of The New York Academy of Sciences Features ARE - Institute for Global Nutrition Collaboration on Vitamin A Intervention for Children in Cameroon

Dec. 12, 2019

A new article, “Strategies to achieve adequate vitamin A intake for young children: options for Cameroon” appears in the latest issue of the Annals of The New York Academy of Sciences. UCD ARE professor Steve Vosti was the lead author of the research article that used the Micronutrient Intervention Modeling (MINIMOD) tool and data for Cameroon to predict the impacts and costs of alternative vitamin A (VA) intervention programs and combinations of them, at national and subnational levels. Not surprisingly, levels of VA deficiency, program impacts and program costs all vary spatially, and so do suggested policy actions. This was a joint effort with UCD’s Institute for Global Nutrition, and done in collaboration with Helen Keller International-Cameroon, The Johns Hopkins University, and the Government of Cameroon. The approach offers a concrete example of the strategic use of data and modeling tools to identify cost-effective strategies to address specific nutrition policy issues.
