Nov. 27, 2019
ARE Distinguished Professor Richard Sexton was featured in an ABC 10 News story about the battle between housing a growing California population and preserving the state’s farmland. Using Sexton’s work on the multiplier effects of support services for agriculture, ABC 10 showed the devastating economic effects the loss of agricultural production could have for some of the counties in the Central Valley. Sexton noted that demand for California’s crops will only continue to grow as people in the world’s most populous countries, rapidly diversify their diets to include more crops that California grows, such as nuts and fruits.
