Professor Sumner Quoted in USA Today about Possible Effects of Farm Labor Changes in California
Jan. 29, 2019
Distinguished Professor Daniel Sumner is quoted in a USA Today article, "Could California produce soon cost you more? Farms face labor shortages, immigration woes."
In the article, Dr. Sumner discusses what price differences customers would notice if farmers convince wholesalers to accept a higher price for product, due to difficulty in finding farm labor or from having to pay workers a higher wage because of a California law that went into effect this year.
"The answer is you'd barely notice the price difference," Dr. Sumner is quoted as saying.
Professor Sumner goes on to speak about additional labor worries as farmers adjust to new rules.
