Ashish Shenoy Joins ARE Faculty
May 25, 2016
Ashish Shenoy joined the ARE department as an assistant professor on July 1, 2016. Ashish earned a B.A. in Economics at Stanford and a Ph.D. in Economics at MIT. Specialized in the study of development and labor economics, Ashish's skills complement those of our existing faculty, both in terms of his focus (labor and health issues) and his geographic areas of focus (South and Southeast Asia). His primary dissertation essay exemplifies this complementarity. In "Migration decisions and persistent earnings differentials: Evidence from Thailand," Ashish uses innovative econometric methods to estimate how large the earnings gap between locations has to be before individuals make the decision to pack up and move. The paper is methodologically sophisticated and informative about debates concerning migration as a mechanism to reduce income disparities within and between countries.
