Ghada Elabed: IAAE's Carl K. Eicher Award

Aug. 21, 2015

ARE alumna, Ghada Elabed, Ph.D. 2014, is the recipient of the Carl K. Eicher Award from the International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE) for the best doctoral dissertation on Africa. The award was created to honor the outstanding contributions of the late Professor Eicher to African agricultural research and education. Ghada will be honored at the International Conference of Agricultural Economists in Milan in August 2015 for her dissertation, "Essays on Agricultural Microinsurance." Her nomination letter described her dissertation as an analytical tour de force, which uses insights from economic theory, behavioral economics and a randomized control trial to look at, and find solutions to, the problem of uninsured risk that inhibits technology adoption and income growth by small-scale farms across the African continent.

Upon completion of her dissertation at UC Davis, Ghada joined the Center for International Policy Research and Evaluation at Mathematica Policy Research in Washington, DC. In September, she plans to enter the Young Professional Program at the World Bank.
