Matthew MacLachlan: Economic Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture

Matthew MacLachlan has accepted an offer as a Research Agricultural Economist in the Economic Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. His research employs Bayesian learning processes, dynamic optimization and econometrics to examine the management of pest and pathogen introduction and spread in the trade of agricultural products under uncertainty. His job market paper presents a unique combination of Bayesian learning and optimal control to capture the value of information in infectious livestock disease mitigation. He plans to continue both theoretical and applied research in the areas of animal disease and trade. Matthew’s dissertation committee members are Michael Springborn, James Wilen and Lovell Jarvis.
