Kassahun Melesse: Applied Economics at Oregon State University

Kassahun Melesse has accepted an assistant professor position in the Department of Applied Economics at Oregon State University. Kassahun’s research employs economic theory, advanced statistical and numerical methods to analyze development problems aimed at informing public policy to raise standard of living and reduce global poverty. His dissertation focuses on the microeconomics of technology adoption in developing economies under credit and insurance market imperfections. In particular, Kassahun’s job market paper explores how changes in property rights regimes influence the adoption of new technology by transforming the contractual structure in agriculture.
