Karen Thome: USDA Economic Research Service
June 18, 2014
Karen Thome has accepted a new position as a research agricultural economist in the Food Security and Development Branch, Market and Trade Economics Division, of USDA's Economic Research Service. Her appointment begins August 10, 2014.
Karen received her Ph.D in the ARE department in 2012. She is currently a post-doctoral scholar working with Ed Taylor on the FAO's Protection to Production initiative, which explores linkages among social protection, development programs, and agricultural productivity in several African countries. This line of research follows her dissertation, "Three Essays on the Growth of Agroindustry and Changing Commodity Markets: Industrial Organization Approaches," on which Rich Sexton, Cynthia Lin, and Pierre Mérel served as co-chairs of her committee. Karen looks forward to moving to Washington, D.C. to work with a great group of accomplished economists, and hope to maintain her collaborations at Davis.
