UC Davis Agricultural and Resource Economics

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Global challenges related to food, environment, natural resources and development have unequal implications within and across countries. Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) offers tools to inform policymakers and private entities on how to best address those challenges and related societal inequities. We, the ARE Department at UC Davis, strive to promote diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) because diversity of perspectives is a key ingredient in effective teaching and mentoring, producing impactful research and contributing positively to our society.

The DEI highlights of the 2021–22 academic year include the initiation of:

  • the DIRECT program, a comprehensive program aiming to enhance and expand pathways to graduate training in economics and the professoriate for historically underrepresented populations,
  • the departmental DEI committee charged with supporting, enhancing and coordinating DEI efforts in the ARE department through concrete, sustainable actions,
  • the DEI data initiative to help the ARE department set DEI goals and track its progress.

The DEI committee is composed of faculty, graduate students, and staff. Current committee members include:
